Pastoral Care - The Year SystemFor organisational and pastoral purposes Wadham operates a Year system with Years 9 - 13 each having a Head of Year, a Deputy Year Head and a team of Tutors. It is to them that students normally go if problems or queries arise. The Year Head is responsible for the overall welfare and academic development of students within the Year and for the Year as a unit within the school. The Year will be the students' 'Home' at Wadham although some activities are organised on a House basis (see below). In Years 9, 10 and 11 a student will belong to a mixed ability tutor group whose Tutor will be counsellor in all educational, social or personal matters. It is also the Tutor's responsibility to watch and review the overall progress of the group, collating the Records of Achievement made by academic departments, noting particular strengths and weaknesses and encouraging and helping wherever possible. We hope parents will stress to their sons and daughters that the staff are here to offer help and that they should never be afraid to ask for assistance. Although Year staff are the most obvious people to contact, any member of staff will gladly help if approached.
