Adult Learning and Leisure - Crewkerne Area

Wadham as a Community School

There is currently based at Wadham an Adult Learning and Leisure office (part-time).

The three priority areas of the service are currently:-

  • Adult Learning
  • Play and Work with 5-14 year olds
  • Sports Management and Development

Underpinning these 3 areas of work are the following principles:

  • Community Development - Encouraging and enabling groups and individuals to identify and take action to meet their personal and community learning needs.
  • Equal Opportunities - Ensuring that everyone in Somerset has the opportunity to participate in learning, taking account of their financial circumstances, ethnicity, gender, home location/situation, ability, disability, working patterns, age and/or religion.
  • Inclusive Learning - Enabling people with learning difficulties and/or disabilities to participate in all learning opportunities which meet their individual needs.

Widening Participation Engaging everyone who has not previously participated in non-statutory or planned education.

A strong partnership with other providers has been an important feature of Adult Learning and Leisure in the Crewkerne area and strong links with the Town Council, District Council, ACCESS and others continue to be developed.

Wadham remains fully committed to Adult Learning and Leisure and it aims to:

  1. Make the facilities available for community use whenever possible.
  2. Make school classes available to adults as much as possible
Encourages school students to make use of the wider community for education, leisure and recreation.
  3. Develop the ethos of learning for life through having adults and further education our premises.
